The mother of a teenager says she wants to know why her son was shot to death at an Atlanta gas station on Friday.

Daronald Wilkerson, 17, was shot at the Texaco service station at 1974 Sylvan Road SW in Atlanta, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Police now believe the shooter and several other people were in the car with Wilkerson, Channel 2 Action News reported.

In a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses, Wilkerson's mother, Tasandra Wilkerson, said her son "was such a gentleman, with a kind heart who loved to laugh." He was a student at Benjamin E. Mays High School and was one of six children.

At a candlelight vigil at the Wilkersons’ home Saturday night, Tasandra Wilkerson told Channel 2 she had trouble sleeping knowing her son’s killer hasn’t been caught.

“I really want to know what happened to my baby,” she said. “…My son didn’t deserve this.”

Dozens of people who gathered for the vigil shared memories of Wilkerson, a high school junior, who was described as someone who loved music and fashion, Channel 2 reported. Wilkerson’s brother called him “a very caring person.”
