A Southwest Atlanta woman was arrested after a Cobb County police officer saw two panting dogs in her parked car Friday afternoon.

Raivyn Symone Dixon spent eight hours in Cobb jail that afternoon on an animal cruelty charge before bonding for $1,320, jail records show.

From about 9:30 a.m. to a bit after 1 p.m., the dogs sat inside her car at the parking lot of the Kroger on Shallowford Road, according to a warrant.

An animal control officer responded and used an infrared thermometer to find out how hot it was inside the car.

The average was 110 degrees, but, at one point, the thermometer read 118 degrees, according to the warrant.

The officer writing the warrant noted their cruiser displayed the outside temperature as 89 degrees.

“I observed the two dogs to be panting heavily and an excessive amount of liquid to be emanating from their mouths,” the officer wrote.

The dogs were released to Dixon’s girlfriend, who was at the scene when Dixon was arrested. The department said the dogs appeared to be fine once they were out of the car.

Cobb police couldn’t immediately confirm Tuesday afternoon the breed of dog nor how authorities were alerted to the situation.
