Nearly 12 hours after a car slammed into a power pole and sent a transformer crashing into a building, Deering Road is still closed at Northside Drive.

Georgia Power crews are still working to replace the damaged power pole and equipment, company spokesman John Kraft said.

“That takes a little while,” he said.

However, power has been restored to nearly everyone affected by the crash, which occurred just before midnight.

No one was injured in the crash or the fire that broke out when the transformer crashed into the building.

No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze, Atlanta fire officials said.

Until Deering Road reopens, use Collier Road or 17th Street as alternate routes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
